Kompassi points to the sea – apartments in a prime location in Helsinki
The southwest tip of Jätkäsaari island in Helsinki is becoming home to high-rises, including the Kompassi apartment block.
Not long ago, Jätkäsaari was a harbour area. Today, it is the site of the rapidly developing residential neighbourhood of Saukonpaasi, which is being built by us.
The sea view from Saukonpaasi is beautiful, but those who have worked at the site have also become very familiar with the strong wind from the sea. Due to high humidity, close attention was paid to protecting the structures during construction. All work on the facade and mineral wool insulation was carried out under tarpaulins.
Kompassi represents ordinary building construction that takes advantage of smart solutions. The annex to the building includes clubhouse, laundry and sauna facilities, and the indoor car park has direct access to the residential floors. The building is connected to the district heating and cooling networks. Modern technical building systems ensure that the building is evenly heated in the winter and comfortable in the summer.
"District cooling enables residents to lower the temperature in their apartment by a few degrees. This will prove useful in the summer when the sun is shining through the large windows," says Pekka Kääpä, Site Manager at Lemminkäinen.
The Kompassi apartment block is comprised of 51 units ranging in size from 43 m2 to 150 m2. The first tenants moved in in late March 2016.
