Lemminkäinen involved in several projects promoting the social guarantee for young people
LEMMINKÄINEN CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 11 MARCH 2013 AT 1:00 P.M
LEMMINKÄINEN INVOLVED IN SEVERAL PROJECTS PROMOTING THE SOCIAL GUARANTEE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Lemminkäinen is the Finnish Children and Youth Foundation partner in their campaign, Vastuullinen kesäduuni (Responsible Summer Job), promoting responsible summer jobs, and will participate in their competition for the most responsible summer job 2013 in the large businesses category. The campaign objective is to foster young people's ability to enter working life and as such is an ideal platform for Lemminkäinen's participation. Lemminkäinen seeks to be the best employer in its sector with the most skilled workforce and the best supervisors in the industry.
The Most Responsible Summer Job 2013 campaign obliges participating businesses to pay particular attention to the conditions, health and safety, and fair and equal treatment of their summer workers. The campaign participants commit to providing their young employees with meaningful work and reasonable pay.
Successful summer work experience benefits both parties
"By committing to the campaign principles, we seek to do our part in offering great summer work experiences and creating a positive image of the construction sector as an employer. If we can have good workers commit to working for our company when they are studying, we can keep recruiting highly skilled professionals also in the future. In that way, the Responsible Summer Job campaign serves both parties equally," says Tiina Mellas, Human Resources Director.
The search for summer jobs has already begun
Lemminkäinen will again recruit hundreds of seasonal workers this summer for a number of jobs in construction and administration across Finland. Most of them are construction sector students, who will be given access to the top projects in the industry. The range of summer vacancies includes on-site construction work and clerical positions, depending on the applicants' field and level of studies, and the degree of completion of their education. In addition to on-site jobs, summer vacancies are available in support functions, such as financial administration and human resources.
Applications for summer jobs are accepted until 31 March 2013. Applications must be submitted online at www.lemminkainen.fi/kesatyo.
In addition to the Responsible Summer Job campaign, Lemminkäinen is participating in a number of projects promoting the social guarantee for young people, such as the Nuorten hyväksi campaign, supported by the President of Finland, and the Myrsky project, coordinated by the Finnish Children and Youth Foundation.
Lemminkäinen to introduce a dedicated trainee programme
Lemminkäinen is planning to introduce its own trainee programme. Construction sector students take part in the planning of the programme, which seeks to build bridges between studies and permanent jobs, and to find and train new professionals to work at Lemminkäinen in positions where the competition for skilled recruits is tough.
"The trainee programme will enable us to choose the best candidates who will continue working in permanent positions at Lemminkäinen, and to invest in the long-term commitment of our employees. The top trainees will be provided with a continuous development and career path plan at Lemminkäinen," says Jaana Pullinen, Recruitment Specialist. The first applications for the trainee programme will be accepted next autumn.
