Safety training with eLearning

We have launched in Norway an eLearning portal, which has an easy-to-use interface for health, safety and environment matters. Every employee has to complete the HSE training, and there is even tailored course for subcontractors.

Thomas Holmsen is a Director for EHS, QA, CSR & product quality at Lemminkäinen in Norway. His job is to make sure that all the employees receive a comprehensive HSE training.

“We wanted the training to be flexible and felt that classroom courses didn’t work for us. Something else needed to be done, so we came up with this eLearning portal. When the training is online, it is not bound by time or place, so people can access it easily.”

At the moment, 96% of all the employees in Norway have completed the training. The feedback has been very positive. eLearning is a modern way to train people.

Safety is a top priority

“People are encouraged to report safety risks and near-miss situations on the site. The better we understand the risks, the easier it is to analyse, correct and learn from them,” says Holmsen.

Creating a safety culture is an important theme. For us, it is important to manage health and safety risks and make sure that everyone gets home safe and sound after the working day. Our goal is zero accidents.

“We want to create an encouraging safety culture, where everyone looks after each other in a good team spirit. eLearning is an excellent tool for this,” Holmsen tells.
