History with an aroma of coffee
The coffee company Paulig built the largest coffee roastery in the Nordic countries in Aurinkolahti at the end of the 1960s. President Urho Kekkonen started the roasting of the first batch of Presidentti coffee at the inauguration ceremony in 1968. The roastery was modern: roasting was controlled by a computer, and coffee packages left the warehouse shelves in the order of freshness.
In addition to the roastery, Paulig has also gradually transferred its head office to Vuosaari. The Paulig roastery was an essential part of Vuosaari, both as a landmark and as the workplace for many. Paulig's surroundings changed in the 1990s with strong construction activity in the nearby areas. Paulig purchased a new plot for a larger roastery and head office from the business area at the Port of Vuosaari in 2006. The new roastery was inaugurated in January 2010, after which the Kahvikortteli area was made available for residential construction.
