The day-to-day life of residents is the focus of contemporary residential planning. New residential areas are designed to have services, transport links, recreational services and, to some extent, jobs located in the vicinity of residential areas.
Entirely new residential areas also make it possible to implement innovative and non-traditional ideas with regard to aspects such as waste recycling, parking, the comfort of yards and outdoor areas, and safety. They make day-to-day life easier and living in new residential areas more ecological, comfortable and flexible.
Everything is within walking distance in Jätkäsaari
Jätkäsaari in Helsinki is a great example of the area development of the future. Various services and recreational facilities are within walking distance of the apartments in the area. The neighbourhood will be made even more attractive and comfortable by a 2.5-kilometre park at the centre of the area, ending at a beach.
We will build several housing companies in the Saukonpaasi area in the north-western part of Jätkäsaari. Courtyards will be built to be garden-like and spacious. Part of the parking spaces of the housing cooperatives will be in a parking facility that will be built under a deck in the yard. There will also be a marina next to the residential blocks.
Jätkäsaari will feature an innovative approach to waste collection in the form of a newly built pipe collection system. Residents drop their sorted waste in the appropriate hatches, from which they are transported to the collection station by pneumatic tubes. The system will make yard areas more pleasant and safe, eliminating the need for traditional waste containers and for dustcarts to access the area. The new system also has lower costs of use than the traditional model.
