Wasa Station shopping centre – commercial premises at the new event centre

The Wasa Station event centre is being planned at the site of the old Vaasa bus station. The event centre will include a shopping centre, a music and congress centre, a multipurpose hall, a hotel and apartments. Commercial premises of various sizes, from 20 to 2,000 m2, are available for lease in the shopping centre. The commercial premises in the shopping centre are located on three different floors. There are entrances from the Sepänkyläntie and Olympiakatu sides, as well as from the inner courtyard of the event centre on the Vöyrinkatu side. All in all, the plans for the event centre include:       

  • a total of 21,150 m2 of leasable commercial space in the shopping centre
  • parking places for around 600 cars
  • 655 bicycle parking places
  • an 8,000-m2 music and congress centre
  • approx. 190-room hotel
  • a 3,500-m2 multipurpose hall
  • approx. 80 apartments

The planned total gross area of the event centre is 85,000 m2 and the floor area 50,500 m2.

Wasa Station will make use of new and innovative energy solutions in order to achieve the best possible energy efficiency. The target is to have a nearly energy self-sufficient block. The Ministry on economic affairs and employment selected the Wasa Station as one of the energy key projects at the beginning of 2017. The aid granted for innovative and energy-efficient solutions. In addition, the Wasa Station project has been awarded the BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) Communities Level I Certification.

Good customer flows in attractive Vaasa

The shopping centre is expected to attract over 3 million customers a year. The music and congress centre, the multipurpose hall and the hotel will also bring customers to the shopping centre.

Wasa Station will be built between two busy streets right near the city centre. The Vaasa travel centre, with its railway and bus stations, is located just a stone's throw away, and the market square only half a kilometre away. Each day, around 25,000 vehicles drive on Sepänkyläntie, the main route into the city centre, while around 18,000 vehicles drive on neighbouring Konepajankatu. Due to the development of the Klemettila area, the City Center of Vaasa is expanding to the north. The old industrial area is becoming a modern residential area with new apartment buildings. At the moment Lemminkäinen has two apartment buldings under construction, Asunto Oy Vaasa Pikkukokki and Asunto Oy Myllykatu 10.

A wide range of different events and activities will be organised at the event centre, from light music concerts to fairs, congresses and training events, as well as opera and city orchestra performances. The music and congress centre hall can accommodate an audience up to around 1,800. The hotel and apartment building will have 25 floors and it will be nearly 100 meters high.
