Flexible transition from studies to working life

High-quality on-the-job learning and an internship period during studies help develop your skills in turning theory into practice.

Our goal is to familiarise you with our job sites during the internship period while offering you work experience in your own field of expertise during your summer vacation.

Students from vocational institutes

  • On-the-job learning is a goal-oriented work period included in basic vocational degree studies (20 credits). The aim is to learn certain basic degree content as part of working life.
  • During your on-the-job learning period, you may choose to complete specialist studies for vocations that require special construction-related skills.
  • A trained on-site instructor will be appointed for you.

Students from higher education institutions

  • During your ‘overall training’ period at Lemminkäinen, you will learn about construction site operations from top experts in the field.
  • You will benefit from your overall training experience in your site management training. Site management training at Lemminkäinen usually involves ancillary duties to start with and, later on, personal site management responsibilities. Procurement and planning duties may also be included in the work tasks.
  • International internships and jobs are mainly offered in the building construction sector.

If you would like more information about our on-the-job learning and internship activities, please send e-mail to rekry@lemminkainen.com.

Theses

The majority of the theses commissioned and supervised by Lemminkäinen are Engineer's and Master’s theses. Thesis topics range from technology to the environmental impacts and safety matters of the construction industry. Construction is also examined from the perspectives of planning, productivity and economics.

A successful engineer’s thesis is a vocational research paper that provides original information and has a strong practical aspect. The results of an engineering thesis towards a vocational degree can be exploited in Lemminkäinen's business operations.

A Master’s thesis is a research paper that is included in studies towards a Master of Science degree. Completing a Master’s thesis at Lemminkäinen is usually based on a commission agreement. A Master’s thesis is a development project aimed at solving a current problem or a challenging situation at Lemminkäinen using the thesis writer’s contribution.

Summer jobs

Lemminkäinen offers a wide range of summer jobs depending on the students’ field of education and stage of studies. The application period for summer jobs is mainly from January to March. However, you can also ask about available summer jobs after the application period has ended. The application form is available through the Career Path service during the application period for summer jobs.
