In the 1970s we launched our operations in Africa with infrastructure construction projects funded by the World Bank, and continued our activities with development co-operation projects from Finland and other Scandinavian countries. We have been active in Egypt, Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Liberia, Senegal and Nigeria.
We have been operating in Egypt since 1993. Our first construction project was a water and wastewater treatment plant for the municipality of Badr City. So far, we have carried out four water supply projects in Egypt. Our familiarity with the country, our membership of the Egyptian Building and Construction Federation as well as our branch office in Cairo all provide flexibility for our operations also elsewhere in the Middle East.
In Europe we have executed numerous paper mill projects for the leading Scandinavian forest companies in England, Germany, France, Belgium and Poland. We have also carried out a number of mobile phone and telecommunication production plant projects, especially for Nokia and their suppliers in Germany, Hungary and Poland as well as the construction of the multi-purpose arenas in Hamburg and Regensburg.
In South America we have been responsible for the management of the construction works at the Botnia pulp mill project in Uruguay, which, during its construction, was the biggest Finnish investment abroad.
